IEEE Germany Section EMC Society Chapter establishes Linkedin and Xing groups for EMC related topics
===================================================================================
The IEEE Germany Section EMC Society Chapter has started groups on Xing and Linkedin to use these communication platforms as a forum for EMC professionals in Germany. It is a community forum for technical content, academic discussions, networking and events related to EMC.

Besides the exchange between industry, academia, and private research institutions it is a place to start joint ventures for research projects, announce lectures, tutorials and workshops on EMC as well as member meetings.

Best Thesis Awards in IEEE Germany Section EMC Society Chapter

During their 23rd annual meeting the IEEE Germany Section EMC Society Chapter granted awards for the best thesis related to EMC subjects. A jury with members from industry and academic institutes had chosen the best thesis in the categories Bachelor, Master and PhD thesis for the period of October 2014 to September 2016.

Alexander Vogt received the Best-PhD-Thesis-of-the-Year Award by Prof. ter Haseborg and Prof. Schuster for his thesis “Analysis of Electromagnetic Interference in Server Casings”.

The award for the best Master thesis was presented to Felix Burghardt (“Immunity prediction of unmanned aerial vehicles based on measured data of sub-systems”).

The best Bachelor thesis award was received by Christian Siebauer (“Implementation of simple sources for investigating the immunity of IT networks”).

Successful EMC boot camp in Hamburg

The German chapter of the IEEE EMC Society organized a two-day EMC boot camp at the Helmut Schmidt University (HSU)/ University of the German Armed Forces Hamburg on October 12th + 13th 2016. The subtitle "The most important things about electromagnetic compatibility for students and beginners" put it straight: enabling engineers with little EMC experience to get a compact introduction into this topic. More than 80 participants from all parts of Germany joined the event, demonstrating the importance of EMC as an interdisciplinary skill of electrical and information technology.

Speakers from industry were Dr. Robert Kebel (Airbus), Dr. Christian Klünder (Dräger), Dipl.-Ing Jan Schommer (Dräger), Dr. Matthias Tröscher (CST) and Dr. Thomas Weber (TÜV Nord). Lecturers from the academic sector were Prof. Sven Battermann (FH Bielefeld), Prof. Markus Clemens (BUW), Prof. Stefan Dickmann (HSU), Prof. Christian Schuster (TUHH) and Prof. Jens Werner (Jade Hochschule). In addition, Susanne Kaule (Langer EMV Technik) informed about the IEEE and the EMC Society.

At the end of the EMC boot camp, the participants were able to participate in laboratory experiments, which were prepared by HSU, Leibniz University Hannover and the CST AG.

After this successful event, the Executive Board of the IEEE German EMC Chapters is planning a follow-up event in autumn 2017, to be held in a southern region of Germany.
