SUMMARY:GECon 2024 announces the Workshop Session "Enhancing Learning Outcomes: Interactive Formative Assessment using Autograding via MATLAB Grader"
DESCRIPTION:GECon 2024 announces the Workshop Session “Enhancing Learning Outcomes: Interactive Formative Assessment using Autograding via MATLAB Grader” \n \nThis workshop on Formative Assessment demonstrates how teaching can be enhanced and how student learning can be empowered using formative assessment in digitized academic teaching by means of MATLAB Grader cloud-based autograding platform. Formative assessment is a cutting-edge educational strategy that leverages continuous feedback and assessment to enhance the learning process. Unlike summative assessment\, that provides an evaluation snapshot at the end of a course\, formative assessment allows for ongoing adjustments to teaching and learning methods throughout the course based on continuous feedback and autogenerated statistics. In this workshop\, participants will delve into how formative assessment fosters a deeper understanding of course content\, boosts student motivation\, and supports the development of essential learning competencies such as critical thinking and problem-solving. During the workshop\, the participants will explore the role of MATLAB Grader as a pivotal tool in this process\, providing immediate performance evaluations and tailored feedback that help educators tailor their instruction to meet the evolving needs of their students. Moreover\, the workshop participants will discover how MATLAB Grader integrates seamlessly into your teaching workflow\, enabling them to concentrate on crafting assignments that align with learning outcomes while students engage in self-directed work. This powerful platform enables innovative teaching approaches such as the Flipped Classroom format\, Project-Based Learning (PBL)\, via the creation of reusable digital materials/tasks for autograding\, allowing students to learn at their own pace. By attending our workshop\, educators will learn how to harness the full potential of MATLAB Grader to streamline the formative assessment process. Workshop participants will gain insights into how automated feedback and the generation of insightful statistics can transform their teaching approach\, making it easier to identify and address the specific areas where students need support. This workshop will enable educators to revolutionize their academic teaching with MATLAB Grader and formative assessment strategies that align with the modern educational landscape. Conclusively\, this workshop is designed to equip educators with the knowledge and tools necessary to create a more engaging\, responsive\, and effective learning environment for their students. \nGECon 2024 is taking place at the Technical University of Munich\, from 2 to 4 in August 2024.\n  \n\n\nGECon 2024 \nNetworking Education in Germany \nMunich\, Germany 05. – 07. SUMMARY:GeCon 2024 - Keynote Session "Enhancing Education with ChatGPT and Human"
DESCRIPTION:GECon 2024 announces the Keynote Session with the topic “Enhancing Education with ChatGPT and Human” \n\nRapidly emerging AI technologies are transforming educators’ roles. AI tools already aid in creating engaging materials and facilitating self-study\, and the future points towards personalized learning experiences tailored to individual needs. Yet\, the recent reshaping of the educational landscape reminds us of the irreplaceable value of human interaction. Skills like communication\, collaboration\, and hands-on exploration remain central\, areas where AI falls short. In this keynote\, we delve into the integration of traditional teaching methods with AI\, especially generative chatbots\, while mindful of ethical considerations. This fusion aims to prepare educators and students for a rapidly evolving educational environment. Such a strategy not only prepares students for a future deeply intertwined with AI but also ensures they are both technically savvy and ethically aware. \nDr. Leah Sharp is an Instructional Designer with a background in physics and a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Now at the TUM Institute for LifeLong Learning\, she trains professors on didactics and pedagogy\, with an emphasis on educational technology. She is currently involved in a project that trains tutors to utilize AI to enhance teaching methods at Bavarian higher education institutions. This initiative focuses on the practical implementation of AI tools to improve educational outcomes. \nGECon 2024 is taking place at the Technical University of Munich\, from 2 to 4 in August\, follow our webpage (this link) and also in Linkeding (this link). \n\n

SUMMARY:Workshop Session at GECon 2024: Challenge based learning and collaborative teaching for an interdisciplinary and interactive learning environment
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will focus on teaching activities that foster interdisciplinary teamwork experiences. We will talk about the advantages and lessons learned in interdisciplinary courses taught at the School of Engineering and Design\, Technical University of Munich in collaboration with other universities. The role of learning platforms and asynchronous teaching (towards new learning)\, as well as the integration of open-source computational simulation tools and their development will be presented as key parts of a functional and successful learning environment. Challenge based learning will be presented for two exemplary course layouts\, their projects and alternative examinations. Apart from the presentation\, there will be room for sharing experiences as well as exchanging and developing ideas and strategies for future teaching formats. \n                                                              \nFurther information please visit https://www.gecon2024.org/
